About me

Introduction:
Hello friends! My name is Brandi Peterson and I'm from Oklahoma, where the wind comes sweeping down the plain. I grew up here in Oklahoma City with my parents and my dear brother. I am a wife and mother of three kids, the oldest of which is a teenage boy we adopted through the foster care system. My younger two are my biological daughters.  



As a kid, I remember my father binging on episodes of Star Trek, the original series. When the Star Wars movies got re-released in the 90's, Dad raced to get tickets for me and my brother so we could all go enjoy them just like he did when he was a kid. So to read and write science fiction today brings back those memories of spending time with my dad. He is a happily retired firefighter now by the way.

One of my professors at the University of Oklahoma taught me a lot about writing mythology and heroism and I adopted this style of writing as my own. And while I am nowhere near the level I would like to be as a writer, I know that I would not be where I am today without her advice.

All this to explain to you why my first novel, Legend of Sylphar, the Silver Queen is a sci-fi story based on the Greek mythology of Theseus and the Minotaur. I make this clear in the beginning as we see Ariadne's mother actually reading an excerpt of the story to a group of children just before a tragedy hits.

Coming Back to My Senses

It all started... So, I am currently recovering from the "Rona" that plagued my home these past couple of weeks. I don't mind telling you that I was not vaccinated, even though that is going to invite a TON of backlash. But here's the thing, my symptoms were not too severe. I had a temperature of 99.5 for 24 hours, then I was sleepy and congested for a week and I lost my sense of taste and smell. (It's still gone.) My husband, on the other hand, is a government employee. He had no intention of getting vaccinated until he received a letter basically saying he can get the jab or lose his job. So out of his love for our family and not wanting to risk our only source of income, he went and got the vaccine. Three weeks later, he was diagnosed with covid 19 pneumonia. He was the one who needed a week of breathing treatments and steroids and antibiotics to get well. I started feeling bad a few days after he did. Chip and Blip (poem for kids)

Here's a fun little poem I wrote back in high school about a couple of silly aliens who's friendship gets a little stressed when they go on an adventure together. Enjoy this silly rhyme! Heavy is the Crown

  In Chapter 22 of Legend of Sylphar, The Silver Queen , the aftermath of a battle on Atlas leaves the Lyken camp shrouded in grief and loss. Amidst the somber atmosphere, Ariadne, the protagonist, follows Prince Theeson, who carries the weight of responsibility for his fallen soldiers. In a profound moment of vulnerability, she overhears his song of lament, revealing the depths of his sorrow and the burden of leadership. *** The voice grew louder as she followed her sense of him. Looking around some large boulders near the edge of the cliff, she spotted him. He was sitting on a large stone overlooking the canyon’s edge.
